TS Alex: Update 6/30/10 0800

As I am sure many of you have heard, Alex is now a Category 1 hurricane, however, it has shifted south and is predicted with high certainty to make landfall on the Mexican coast South of Brownsville. The storm shows signs of rapid intensification and the forward speed has slowed down, meaning the storm may reach Cat 2 strength just prior to land fall. Tropical Storm force winds are predicted to make landfall at about 11am CST today.

The affects to the Houston/Galveston region will be above normal tides, choppier seas, and risk of heavy rainfall from 2 – 9 inches in the next 5 days with the primary areas being South of I-10 and increasing closer to the coast. If the storm follows the predicted path once over Mexico, looks like we should be back to normal weather by Monday.
